It is more evidence the antiwar movement is largely a left-vs-right distraction. A new studyby U-M’s Michael Heaney and colleague Fabio Rojas of Indiana University shows that the antiwar movement in the United States demobilized as Democrats took over Congress and the White House.


A small, dedicated core of people protest against Obama’s third war.

“As president, Obama has maintained the occupation of Iraq and escalated the war in Afghanistan,” said Heaney. “The antiwar movement should have been furious at Obama’s ‘betrayal’ and reinvigorated its protest activity.”

“Instead, attendance at antiwar rallies declined precipitously and financial resources available to the movement have dissipated. The election of Obama appeared to be a demobilizing force on the antiwar movement, even in the face of his pro-war decisions.”

“Since Democrats are more numerous in the population at large than are members of third parties, the withdrawal of Democrats from the movement in 2009 appears to be a significant explanation for the falling size of antiwar protests,” Heaney said. “Thus, we have identified the kernel of the linkage between Democratic partisanship and the demobilization of the antiwar movement.”

“Overall, our results convincingly demonstrate a strong relationship between partisanship and the dynamics of the antiwar movement. While Obama’s election was heralded as a victory for the antiwar movement, Obama’s election, in fact, thwarted the ability of the movement to achieve critical mass.”

Democrats and other liberal supporters of the establishment are not opposed to mass murder and wanton slaughter by the state – they merely oppose it when Republicans do it. Opposition is a partisan formality.

A corporate media poll conducted in late March on Obama’s handling of the unconstitutional attack on Libya shows that two-thirds of Democrat respondents support violating international law and pummeling the oil-rich north African country with Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Congress Democrats often howled about “Bush’s Wars” in Iraq and Afghanistan, but supported them – including the mass murder of 1.5 million Iraqis, a war criminal of immense proportion – by continuing to fund them. The number of anti-war Democrats in Congress who worked to defund the illegal occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq was miniscule.

Obama duped the so-called anti-war faction of his party during the election. He said he’d bring home the troops and close down Gitmo. During the primaries, he tried to make Hillary Clinton look like the war candidate.

Once elected as savior, Obama not only continued Bush’s war policies – in fact the war policies of the global elite – but expanded them. Troops remain in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Pentagon and the CIA stepped up the terror campaign in Pakistan. Gitmo remains open.

History repeats itself. In 1999, then president Clinton attacked Yugoslavia. Democrats and liberals cheered him on. Congress was silent. Only four Democrats objected. In the House, there was only one, Barbara Lee of California. In the Senate, just three – Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, Fritz Hollings of South Carolina, and Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico.

Both Republicans and Democrats love mass murder and military conquest. War is the health of the state, declared Randolph Bourne as the First World War unfolded. The Great War extracted a great toll – 37 million casualties. London and Wall Street bankers cooked up that devastating war and every one since, including the one now expanding in Libya as a U.S. general hints the government will soon send in ground troops and thus initiate a third war in the Arab and Muslim Middle East.

Democrats are so enthusiastic about the murder campaign in Libya, they didn’t even bother to vote on it, not that Obama gave them a chance – like Bush before him, he used the unchecked power of a unitary presidency to attack the African country. “He has proceeded in a way that is cautions and thoughtful,” said a proud Carl Levin, Michigan Democrat. “He has put the ducks in a row before he decided the United States should take the lead for a short period of time to do what only we could do.”

Ohio Democrat Dennis Kucinich is alone in the wilderness. He said Obama’s unconstitutional attack “is an act of war” and an impeachable offense. “The president made statements which attempt to minimize U.S. action, but U.S. planes may drop U.S. bombs and U.S. missiles may be involved in striking another sovereign nation. War from the air is still war,” he said in a lengthy speech on the House floor, a speech mostly ignored by fellow Democrats.



“It is hard to imagine that Congress, during the current contentious debate over deficits and budget cutting, would agree to plunge America into still another war, especially since America will spend trillions in total for the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and incursions into Pakistan,” he said.

Really, it is not hard to imagine at all. Democrats and Republicans do the bidding of the global elite and the global bankster elite not only want war in the Middle East, they want the enslaving debt that invariably comes with it.

In 2003, as he prepared to attack Iraq, Bush dismissed the antiwar movement as a focus group. Democrats are not so crude. Instead, they deem their war “humanitarian,” as a previous war criminal, Bill Clinton, did as he bombed the former Yugoslavia with depleted uranium, in effect launching a nuclear war against that small country.

Poll: Obama’s approval hits new low

President Barack Obama’s approval rating and prospects for reelection have plunged to all-time lows in a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Half of the registered voters surveyed for the poll  think that the president does not deserve a second term in office, while 41 percent say he does. In another Quinnipiac poll released just four weeks ago, 45 percent said the president did not deserve reelection, while 47 percent said he did.

The downward shift may in part be the result of dissatisfaction over U.S involvement in Libya, with 47 percent of those surveyed saying they oppose it. By a margin of 58 percent to 29 percent, registered voters said that Obama has not clearly stated U.S. goals for the mission.

That didn’t take long. Ann Althouse writes: “Meade, who is in the building now, tells me, by phone, that he saw a window on the Wisconsin Avenue side of the building opened and protesters entering through that window. He thought it seemed as if someone in one of the Democratic legislators’ offices had opened a window to let them in, and — once they were in — many doors have been opened all around, and people have streamed into the building. He says he counted 3 “troopers” — I’m not sure what the official job title is for these security people — and that they were absurdly overwhelmed by the crowd.” So…Wisconsin is not Cairo?

Meade said that he wasn’t afraid that these people would become violent, and indeed many of them looked happy — or dazed — perhaps out of success in taking over the building. He didn’t see any damage or dangerous behavior. Meade is taking video of what he is seeing, and I will have that for you later.

AND: Meade said that he didn’t see how the security officers could possibly clear out the building and that there was nothing to stop any number of individuals from entering the building right now.

It is unknown if any Republicans were harmed in the making of this mini Cairo.

Did anyone out there anticipate that 2011 would be such a wild year?  The year is barely over two months old and we have already seen multiple civil wars erupt, rumors of more wars all over the mainstream media (potentially even including the United States), riots and revolutions breaking out all over the globe, oil prices soaring into the stratosphere and chaos on global financial markets.  So why is all of this happening?  Is all of this one big coincidence or is there a reason why we are witnessing such global chaos right now?  Is it just coincidence that revolutions have broken out in over a dozen countries in the Middle East all at the same time?  Is it just a coincidence that global prices for oil, food and precious metals are all skyrocketing?  Is it just a coincidence that world financial markets suddenly seem more vulnerable than at any time since 2008?  Looking at what is going on in the world right now, it is very tempting to use the phrase “a perfect storm” to describe it.  Unfortunately, this “perfect storm” is very likely to plunge the global economy into yet another financial collapse if it continues to get even worse.

After decades of relative stability, the Middle East has erupted in chaos in 2011.  In the post-World War 2 era, we have never seen a time when there have been so many major internal revolutions all at once.  All of these simultaneous revolutions are driving the price of oil rapidly upwards.

The price of West Texas crude is now over $102 a barrel and the price of Brent crude is now over $116 a barrel and if the chaos in the Middle East continues those numbers are likely to go a lot higher.

Meanwhile, gold has set a new all-time record this week and the price of silver is absolutely exploding.

In fact, just about every kind of “hard asset” that you can possibly name is going up in price.  Investors don’t like all of this instability and they are looking for safe places to put their money.

Unfortunately, the global situation looks like it may become even more heated.
The calls for military action against Libya are rapidly reaching a crescendo.

The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a resolution calling for the UN Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over Libya, and many members of Congress are openly declaring that the U.S. and NATO should take unilateral action no matter what the UN ultimately decides.

What is the perfect way to get the eyes of the American people off of the real economic problems that this country is facing?  Get them fighting with each other of course.  And what is one issue that is sure to get the left and the right screaming at each other like cats and dogs?  Unions.  The battle over collective bargaining rights in Wisconsin has been making headlines around the world for weeks and there are no signs that it is going to end any time soon.  In fact, Mordecai Lee, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, says that it is “a battle to the death“.  The Democrats that have gone AWOL appear to be absolutely determined to stay away.  The protesters seem equally determined to keep on fighting.  Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker does not look like he plans to back down either.  Meanwhile, both sides are calling each other the most horrible names.  “Hitler”, “Stalin”, “Nazi” and “fascist” are just a few of the terms that are being thrown around by both sides.  What has been going on in Wisconsin has captured the imagination of the entire nation and it is creating even more hate between the left and the right in this country.

Unfortunately, as the economic pie in this nation continues to shrink, economic battles such as the one in Wisconsin are going to become quite common.

In fact, the war over public unions seems to be spreading.  The Ohio Senate has just passed a law that bans public employees from ever going on strike and that forbids them from negotiating on issues such as health care, sick time and pension benefits with the state government.

Needless to say, public employees and union workers in Ohio are not amused.
Several other states are now looking at legislation that would restrict the collective bargaining rights of public employees.  Battle lines are being drawn all over the nation.

If you only read conservative websites about all of this, you would be tempted to believe that all union activists are Satanic communists that hate everything that is true and good about America.

If you only read liberal websites about these protests, you would be tempted to believe that all conservatives are heartless Nazi-loving bastards that want to give all the money in America to the rich.

But this is what the establishment loves to do – they love to “divide and conquer” and have us fighting with each other like cats and dogs.

Congress should think twice before forcing a government shutdown as the consequences could be the loss of the power of Congress to control spending through authorization and appropriation bills.

Congress permitted President George W. Bush to accumulate new powers in the executive, and these powers have passed to Obama. Bush succeeded in establishing that as a wartime commander-in-chief he had the “inherent power” to disobey the laws against torture, spying on Americans without obtaining warrants, and indefinite detention. In addition, Bush used signing statements in ways inconsistent with his oath and obligation to uphold the laws of the United States, and he took the U.S. to war based on lies, deception, and fabricated “evidence,” an offense that qualifies as treason.


With these precedents, it is a simple matter for President Obama to declare that, with the U.S. at war in a world of growing instability, he has the inherent power to ignore the debt limit and to continue financing the government with the creation of new money by the Federal Reserve.

Congress could try to protect its loss of the power of the purse by impeaching Obama. But how credible would it be to impeach a wartime president who is using the same “inherent power” of his office that Congress permitted the previous president to use?

The powers that Bush asserted not only violated statutory law, but also set aside constitutionally guaranteed rights that are the essence of American liberty. Yet, Congress made no attempt to restrain him with impeachment. How then does Congress impeach a president who is merely using his power to keep a government at war operating?

As President Bush’s acts were not deemed impeachable offenses, it seems likely that Congress has lost its power to impeach through default.

Have you ever heard of mob robberies?  What happens is that dozens of young people storm a store at the same time, take whatever they want, and then storm out as powerless store clerks watch helplessly.  Most of the time these “mob robbers” end up getting caught, but unfortunately “group crime” is a trend that is rising.  Is it a sign of the times that large groups of people are starting to recklessly invade retail establishments?  Is this the future of America?  As I have written about so frequently, the U.S. middle class is being destroyed by this economy and large numbers of our young people are losing hope.  Frustration and anger are rising from coast to coast and millions of Americans are losing faith in the system.  The thin veneer of civilization which we all take for granted is already starting to disappear.  So what is going to happen when the economy collapses?  As our economic system fails, mob robberies and rampant looting are only going to become more common.  Let us hope that the economy can hold together for at least a couple more years, because once society falls apart things are going to get really, really ugly in our major cities.

Wisconsin officials find Governor’s comments about use of  agents provocateurs ”deeply troubling”

The Mayor and the police chief of Madison, Wisconsin have both asked Governor Scott Walker to explain comments he made indicating that he had considered employing “troublemakers” to infiltrate and discredit the Wisconsin protests.

Walker made the comments in what he believed was a private telephone conversation with billionaire philanthropist David Koch, a deep-pocketed political ally of Walker. In reality the caller was a reporter from the Buffalo Beast, who recorded the entire conversation.

Though the story made national headlines, the media failed to point out the most shocking of Walker’s comments, that he had considered the use of agents provocateurs in an effort to ultimately bring down the protests.

“But what we were thinking about the crowds was planting some troublemakers,” states the journalist, Ian Murphy, posing as Koch, to which Walker responds, “You know, the problem was, because we thought about that,” before going on to explain that such a move wasn’t necessary becausethe public was already largely in opposition to the union demonstrators.

Clearly Murphy initially intended the call as a prank, however, when Walker actually admitted to having considered infiltrating the protests, a dark reality was revealed.

The alternative media exposed the details and sent the story viral, now officials in Madison are asking questions.

“I spent a good deal of time overnight thinking about Governor Walker’s response, during his news conference yesterday, to the suggestion that his administration ‘thought about’ planting troublemakers among those who are peacefully protesting his bill,” Police chief Noble Wray said in a statement.

“I would like to hear more of an explanation from Governor Walker as to what exactly was being considered, and to what degree it was discussed by his cabinet members.” Wray added.

“I find it very unsettling and troubling that anyone would consider creating safety risks for our citizens and law enforcement officers. Our department works hard dialoging with those who are exercising their First Amendment right, those from both sides of the issue, to make sure we are doing everything we can to ensure they can demonstrate safely,” he said.

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz also noted that he found Walker’s comments disturbing. He said Walker’s statement was “deeply troubling” especially because of the way the governor followed up by “brushing it off”, referring to Walker’s refusal to address the issue in press conferences and appearances on Wednesday and Thursday.

“The governor of Wisconsin actually thought about planting people in the crowds who might turn these peaceful protests into something ugly?” Cieslewicz asked in a statement.

“For the governor of our state to suggest that he even considered disrupting these peaceful protests is a serious thing. We need to hear more from him on exactly what he meant. I hope the media will keep after it.” he added, while praising the protesters and the police for “acting so responsibly” and being “incredibly well organized”.

When asked about the comments on Fox News Wednesday night, Walker tentatively suggested that the idea came from legislators and others – but he didn’t name names. Mayor Cieslewicz wants to know who within Walker’s inner circle brought up the idea.

Walker’s admission that his office considered using stooges to infiltrate the protests and stir up trouble is even more alarming given the fact that Jeff Cox, a deputy attorney general at the Office of the Indiana Attorney General, posted a tweet under the Twitter user name JCCentCom on Saturday in which he said that police in Wisconsin should use “live ammunition” and “deadly force” to break the protests.

Making Hash of the TSA

“We have posted signs on our doors basically saying that [employees of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)] aren’t allowed to come into our business,” says a woman calling herself KC McLawson who works at “a cafe near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.” She and her boss, the policy’s author, became instant heroes after KC contacted “consumer advocate and journalist” Christopher Elliott and pseudonymously discussed the restaurant’s resolve: “Their kind aren’t welcomed in our establishment.”

And you can see why: if McD’s is responsible for clumsy customers who scald themselves spilling coffee, restaurateurs are surely liable when thugs notorious nationwide for sexual assault suddenly throw down their forks mid-meal and attack the gals in the next booth.


Nor does rape exhaust the evil in which the TSA’s sociopaths typically indulge.

They also steal, so it’s likely they’d sneak out without paying their tabs – after picking the pockets of the couple at the table behind them. They make little kids cry and savage the elderly; what host in these tough times can afford to let a few ruffians terrorize the rest of his patrons? And true to its Hitlerian credo, the TSA hurts and humiliates anyone weak in either mind or body, those who are ill and those recovering.

Indeed, our noble restaurateurs may have witnessed one such incident in their own backyard: when “Anchorage state Rep. Sharon Cissna” tried to fly out of Sea-Tac last Sunday following “medical treatment,” the TSA forced this survivor of cancer through its porno-scanner. Then its perverts threatened to grope her anyway – as they had three months earlier. But one experience with the “invasive, probing hands of a stranger” had been more than enough. “I began to remember what my husband and I’d decided after the previous intensive physical search,” Cissna stated. “That I never had to submit to that horror again! It would be difficult, we agreed, but I had the choice to say no, this twisted policy did not have to be the price of flying to Juneau!”

Actually, ma’am, sexual assault is indeed the price of flying to Juneau – you sensibly refused to pay it, so instead you “travel[ed] north from Seattle by car, small plane and the Alaska state ferry system.” Which is hardly a “choice,” anymore than the mugger in an alley allows you to “choose” whether you’ll give him your money or your life. But hey, you’re a politician, so close enough for government work.

Given the TSA’s enthusiasm for crimes and atrocities, then, as well as the risks of proximate liability in this litigious age, our unnamed restaurateur is prudent to forbid its henchmen his premises. The wonder is that more entrepreneurs haven’t.

But are signs on the door enough? After all, the TSA shamelessly goes everywhere it’s not wanted. So what happens when its bullies ignore orders against trespassing as deafly and deftly as they do shrieks from passengers? “If [my boss] sees a TSA agent come in,” KC explains, “we turn our backs and completely ignore them, and tell them to leave.”

Yeehaw! Praise God for such patriots! If enough of us follow suit, if we refuse to deal with the TSA’s goons professionally and socially, the agency will find fewer and fewer deviants willing to don its brown-sorry, its blue shirts.

American colonists relied on a similar tactic in the 1760′s and 1770′s: tarring and feathering. Though we tend to dismiss it as a quaint practical joke, tarring and feathering was actual, physical torture. The boiling tar severely burned its target; it could blind him if it hit his eyes and permanently injure those areas the TSA gropes.

The Push of Conscience and Secretary Clinton

It was not until Secretary of State Hillary Clinton walked to the George Washington University podium last week to enthusiastic applause that I decided I had to dissociate myself from the obsequious adulation of a person responsible for so much death, suffering and destruction.

I was reminded of a spring day in Atlanta almost five years earlier when then-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld strutted onto a similar stage to loud acclaim from another enraptured audience.

Introducing Rumsfeld on May 4, 2006, the president of the Southern Center for International Policy in Atlanta highlighted his “honesty.” I had just reviewed my notes for an address I was scheduled to give that evening in Atlanta and, alas, the notes demonstrated his dishonesty.

I thought to myself, if there’s an opportunity for Q & A after his speech I might try to stand and ask a question, which is what happened. I engaged in a four-minute impromptu debate with Rumsfeld on Iraq War lies, an exchange that was carried on live TV.

That experience leaped to mind on Feb. 15, as Secretary Clinton strode onstage amid similar adulation.

The fulsome praise for Clinton from GWU’s president and the loud, sustained applause also brought to mind a phrase that – as a former Soviet analyst at CIA – I often read in Pravda. When reprinting the text of speeches by high Soviet officials, the Communist Party newspaper would regularly insert, in italicized parentheses:  “Burniye applaudismenti; vce stoyat” —  Stormy applause; all rise.

With the others at Clinton’s talk, I stood. I even clapped politely. But as the applause dragged on, I began to feel like a real phony. So, when the others finally sat down, I remained standing silently, motionless, with my eyes fixed narrowly on the rear of the auditorium and my back to the Secretary.

I did not expect what followed: a violent assault in full view of Secretary Clinton by what in Soviet parlance were called the “organs of state security.”  The rest is history, as they say.  A short account of the incident can be found here.

Madison police chief asks Walker to explain 'troubling' statements

Madison's mayor and police chief Thursday called on Gov. Scott Walker to explain statements he made in a secretly recorded phone conversation that he "thought about" planting troublemakers among the thousands of demonstrators at the Capitol.

"Someone in his inner circle raised seriously the possibility of hiring people to come in and apparently create violence in my city," Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said. "I find it appalling, and I want to know who that was."

Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie said the governor had already answered questions about the phone call during a press conference Wednesday in which he acknowledged entertaining — but rejecting — the idea.

"People have brought up all sorts of different options," Walker said at the press conference. "As you saw if you've listened to the tape, we shot that down."

One official in Indiana suggested over the weekend that riot police should use deadly force on those protesting Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to strip unions of their rights.

A Saturday tweet from Mother Jones reported on the likelihood that police would soon be clearing the Wisconsin Capitol building of demonstrators.
“Use live ammunition,” a Twitter user named JCCentCom replied.

During a prank phone call in which he believed he was talking to billionaire philanthropist David Koch, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker admitted that state authorities had “thought about” using troublemakers to infiltrate the crowds demonstrating against his effort to eliminate collective bargaining rights, proving once again that the use of agent provocateurs to discredit legitimate protesters is a common political ploy.

The prank call was made by Ian Murphy, a reporter from the Buffalo Beast, who phoned Walker’s office pretending to be David Koch, a deep-pocketed political ally of Walker. Having believed Murphy’s claim that he couldn’t provide a number for Walker’s office to call him back on because his maid had put his cell phone in the laundry, Murphy was told to call back at a later time and subsequently spoke with Walker for 20 minutes about the situation in Wisconsin, with Walker firmly believing that he was speaking to David Koch.

During a subsequent press conference, Walker defended his remarks that were made during the course of the prank call, stating “The bottom line is, the things I said are things I said publicly all along.”

However, the media completely failed to pick up on the most shocking part of the call, when at 14 minutes 25 seconds in, Walker admits that his office “thought about” planting troublemakers amidst the demonstrators as a means of discrediting them in the eyes of the public.

“But what we were thinking about the crowds was planting some troublemakers,” states Murphy posing as Koch, to which Walker responds, “You know, the problem was, because we thought about that,” before going on to explain that such a move wasn’t necessary because the public was already largely in opposition to the union demonstrators.
